As far as I know all of the Pussy Caps that you see here on my website are my own original patterns and ideas. I honestly wouldn't know how to follow a pattern if I tried because I don't read crochet, which seems to be a language all its own.
It's entirely possible that these designs have been done before by others, but if they have been I'm not aware of them. They're just what's come to me in the process of making my caps.
Along the way I've given some of these patterns and colors names, based on the inspirations from which they came or the way they looked to me after they were done.
The Laguna Caps...
This is a pattern that involves four colors - a primary color top & bottom that's accented with a band of waves in two colors that wrap around the cap. The band of waves has a single row of the fourth color above and below. I named this the Laguna Cap in honor of the town of Laguna Beach that I love so much and spend so much time at. You can read more about my adventures in Laguna Beach by clicking here.
The Wave Caps...
This is a simple two color or two yarn pattern inspired by my love of the Pacific Ocean. One yarn on the bottom of the cap that modulates up to a second contrasting yarn by way of a series of waves that wrap all the way around the cap.
The Trykster Caps...
Named for one of my longtime clients as a play on her name and for whom I originally designed this pattern, the Trykster Cap involves three different yarns in a series of repeating bands for the entire length of the cap. It's a tricky pattern to do and challenging in terms of getting just the right combination of yarns for the effect to work.
The Koigu Caps...
These thick and substantial Pussy Caps use three strands of the world famous Koigu Merino wool that's been handpainted by mother & daughter team Maie & Taiu Landra of Ontario, Canada.
Combining different Koigu yarns together as I do in these caps renders a rich and subtle pallet of colors that blend beautifully together.
The tripling of the yarns makes for a thick, cushy cap that has a ton of stretch but that fits snug to the head and stays put.
Merino wool is the world's softest and the tight, high-quality spinning of Koigu makes for a yarn that is perfect for next to the skin and will last virtually forever.
I often use the Koigu Merino combined with other yarns - but a Pussy Cap isn't a Koigu Cap unless it uses three strands crocheted together of this unique and beautiful handpainted yarn.
Woody Blue...
This is my one and only signature color, named for a friend of mine whose nickname is Woody. This yarn comes from the Rowan yarnmakers in England and is a wonderfully soft blend of alpaca and wool.
One of the things I like so much about this color is the way it changes depending on what other color or kind of yarn it's crocheted with.
This yarn color has now been discontinued so when the few skeins of it that I have left are gone that'll be the end of the Woody Blue Caps.
For now though there's still a few caps in this beautiful yarn waiting to be made.

Originally, Kahuna was the Hawaiian title for a priest, expert, teacher, and/or adviser and the term is still used in that context by native Hawaiians.
Somewhere in the 60s the term Big Kahuna took on a life of its own with the surfers and was used to refer to the best surfer on the beach.
When it comes to Pussy Caps, Kahuna refers to a beanie that's big and thick and warm and made only from the very best of the best natural handspun animal fiber yarns.
Kahuna Pussy Caps are characterized by a band of jet-black baby alpaca at the bottom of the cap into which are nestled three rows of triangles in a contrasting yarn. That yarn is then repeated for the body of the cap.

The Roadkill Pussy Caps
This is a limited edition series of caps based on the style of the Laguna Pussy Caps above. There are four yarns and four caps with each cap having a variation of the four yarns.
All four Roadkill Pussy Caps now have homes. Thanks guys!
Something new and exciting from Pussy Cap Land is this natural snowy white yarn from Canada that's been spun from the fibers of the Samoyed sled dog. The Pussy Caps made from this yarn will be part of a new collection called the Mush Puppies and pictured here is the first one off my hook. Hover over the images above for more views.
This is an amazing yarn - so delightfully soft and furry that you just wanna hold it in your hands and snuggle it like it was a little puppy. This is a very warm cap and it's big and roomy so it'll easily cover your ears and keep you well protected no matter how cold it is. One of the amazing things about this Samoyed yarn is that after a couple of wearings it starts to bloom and will eventually create a halo both on the inside and the outside of the cap. You can see a little bit of the bloom getting started at the bottom of the cap in the pictures. I have seen a couple of Mush Puppies with some good wear on them and the stitches are actually completely hidden by the halo and the cap looks like a Russian fur hat! Pretty darn cool.

The Four Corners Pussy Cap Collection
These huge, dramatic Pussy Caps have a tall, four-squared top on them instead of being fitted to the head. They can be worn with their large bands turned up or down and look amazing either way. They feel totally wonderful on and judging from how well they've been selling I think they're going to remain in the line for a few years. Each one is unique and one-of-a-kind of course!
