The red handspun and kettle-dyed merino is beautiful to look at and is very soft so it somewhat offsets the natural wool from Kenya. These two yarns are great together and make for a really dense and protective cap. The band on the inside of the cap is there to make it comfortable for the sensitive skin of the forehead and ears. It's a natural white Italian cashmere coupled with a Peruvian alpaca tweed in three of its natural colors. What an amazing cap this turned out to be - it's a showstopper on and will last for a long long time.

Purple Baby Alpaca Nekker
Nekkers are the most amazing winter wear imaginable. Once you get used to having your neck warm it's almost impossible to leave it bare in the winter. Jed and I wear our Nekkers constantly. This Nekker is a combination of Peruvian baby alpaca in purple, handpainted Uruguayan merino and a strand of natural Peruvian alpaca tweed. It's trimmed in the baby alpaca for an extra treat up around the top of the neck.

Blue and Brown Merino/Alpaca Nekker
Blues, corals, tans and browns, this big luscious Nekker has it all. The blues are handpainted on a yarn that's a blend of merino and silk, which is what the Nekker is also trimmed with. It's joined by a strand of handpainted merino from Uruguay and a strand of alpaca tweed from Peru`. Lots of soft yarns here to keep your neck warm and protected for the cold days of winter.
Golden Merino - Natural Alpaca
I saw this golden hand-dyed merino in a favorite yarn shop in San Rafael and it jumped out into my arms. Rich colors are complimented by a strand of a Peruvian alpaca tweed in three of its natural colors - I used that same tweed to trim the cap with. It's thick and warm and feels amazing on. Plenty of room for anybody's head but it's not loose.

A Gathering of Yarns
Here is what I sometimes do with all of the ends of skeins that aren't enough to do a full cap from. I tie them all together and get busy crocheting. These caps don't happen very often because it takes awhile to collect enough of the remnants from the skeins to make them work. This is in my signature Four Corners style - the yarns are plenty soft for next to the skin and there's a nice drape at the crown. Snug fit for you boarders and skiers and the stitches are such that this cap will breathe. Btw, the knots where all of the yarns are tied together are there on the inside. Some people like to wear it reversed so you see all those wild knots and yarns.
Pussy Caps and Nekkers are not returnable because they come in contact with hair and skin that have the potential to deposit oils, pathogens and/or bugs onto the absorptive fibers of the yarns. This would be similar to the no returns policy on underwear. These are one of a kind specialty articles of clothing that come to you with a guarantee that they are brand new and have never been worn. That assurance of cleanliness cannot be maintained if caps are returned.
Peruvian Alpaca and Uruguayan Merino
The beautiful and gently modulating colors you see here are the result of a handpainted merino wool from Uruguay. It's joined by a strand of Peruvian Alpaca in three of its natural colors. Together they make for an amazing Four Corners Pussy Cap that's as wonderful on as it is to look at. This one is really big with a turned up band that gives you virtually two caps in one for days where your head absolutely has to stay warm. Big drape at the crown for that distinctive Four Corners look.

Handspun Wensleydale Wool Four Corner
At a show near Sun Valley recently I found this beautiful handspun Wensleydale wool from a couple who raise sheep on their farm in the Magic Valley area of Idaho. Part of the wool has been kettle dyed a rich teal and the other is in its natural color. Too scratchy for next to the skin so I did an Italian cashmere band on the inside for the delicate skin of the forehead and ears. The Wensleydale wool is accompanied throughout the cap by a strand of Peruvian alpaca tweed in its natural colors. It's huge and it's beautiful and it's definitely what you want for the coldest days of winter.
Purple Alpaca Boucle`
Alternating with the rows of purple alpaca boucle` from Italy is a handpainted merino and silk yarn from Montana. The two yarns are really nice together, forming a lusciously soft fabric that feels super soft against the delicate skin of the forehead and ears. This Four Corners beauty has a snug but not tight fit so it'll stay on no matter what you're doing.
Pure Peruvian Alpaca
Alpaca is hard to beat on just about any level you wish to define it. Here I've taken a few strands of Peruvian alpaca in their natural colors and created this very simple Four Corners Pussy Cap. It's trimmed in more black alpaca. It has a nice drape and a wonderful softness that's typical of this superfine grade of alpaca yarn. Easy fit for just about anybody's head.

Italian and Peruvian Alpaca with Silk
A beautiful new Italian baby alpaca & silk yarn in white is the luscious basis for this cap. Joining that yarn is a strand of Peruvian alpaca tweed. The contrasting black yarn is a merino & silk blend. This Four Corners Pussy Cap is thick and soft and warm - it just doesn't get any better. Snug but not tight fit would be right for just about any head size.

Italian and Peruvian Baby Alpaca
The white yarn in this Four Corners Pussy Cap is a blend of baby alpaca and silk from Italy. It is amazingly soft and smooth and is a perfect companion for the strand of Peruvian alpaca tweed in white, tan and brown. The cap is trimmed in the baby alpaca/silk yarn. The fit is snug but not tight so it'll stay on nicely no matter what you're doing. Thick, warm, soft and beautiful on. It's a beauty.

Handpainted Merino & Silk with Alpaca
This is a slight variation on a traditional beanie cap in that there's a big turned up band that in essence makes it as though you were wearing two caps in one. The reason for this is simple: with that band turned up your head is going to stay really really warm. The handpainted merino and silk is a superb pallet of greens and they work really well with the strand of natural colored Peruvian alpaca tweed. This is a thick, dense and extremely warm cap that'll last and last and last because alpaca just doesn't wear out. The fit is great.

Alpaca Tweed with Merino/Silk Nekker
It's impossible to go wrong with alpaca unless you're using a lower grade of it, which usually is reserved for carpets, blankets and outerwear. I use only superfine alpaca and baby alpaca that are easily soft enough for next to the skin. In this Nekker I've paired a Peruvian alpaca tweed with a hand-dyed black yarn that's a blend of superfine merino and silk. They're wonderful together and will give you a lot of warmth and softness for your neck. This is a big Nekker as Nekkers go but will squish down perfectly for a total envelopment of your neck. Gotta stay warm? This is how you do it.
Blue and Red Shetland Wool
Shetland wool is world-famous for good reason; it makes super warm sweaters for those cold and wet British Isles climates. But it's too scratchy for next to the skin so I crocheted a black cashmere/baby alpaca liner on the inside so the Shetland wool never has to touch your skin. In this Pussy Cap it's been joined by a strand of natural black superfine alpaca yarn from Peru`. This is a new style of cap that I've been working on - it has the traditional rounded top but with a huge turned up band that essentially makes it like you're wearing two caps in one. This is what you want when you absolutely have to stay warm and the cap absolutely has to stay on your head. The fit is snug but not tight and the inside softness is a dream.

Purple, Lavender and Burgundy Alpaca
What a lot of fun these colors are. I don't normally gravitate to them but sometimes combinations just come out of nowhere. This is almost all baby alpaca except that for the white alpaca yarn here has a little bit of silk in it. That yarn and the burgundy boucle` yarn are from Italy and the others are all from Peru`. This is a Four Corners Pussy Cap with a little bit shorter length than usual because once in awhile somebody wants the style but not so much length. It fits beautifully and is equally beautiful on.

Red Alpaca Boucle`, Merino and Silk
Red is a tough color to get right but this gorgeous alpaca boucle` from Italy did it beautifully. (It's not quite as pink as it appears here.) I added a handpainted merino/silk yarn from Montana that gives the whole cap some sheen and textural interest. It's one of the shorter Four Corners Pussy Caps that I've gotten some requests for and have started to work with. Its fit is perfect and it'll stay on nicely no matter how rowdy you get. This is a totally new style and texture for me and I'm really liking it.
Greens, Yellows and Whites
Believe it or not, four amazing yarns have gone into this beauty. A white Italian yarn that's a blend of baby alpaca and silk. A thin yellow strand of vintage wool, probably also from Italy based on the cone it was on when I bought it. A strand of handpainted merino and silk from Montana that's giving us all those wonderful shades of green. And finally the deep green alpaca boucle` yarn in the band that's also from Italy. This is a great big thick Pussy Cap with a massive turned up band that makes it as though you had two caps on instead of one. It fits beautifully, it's crazy warm and soft and it's going to last you a long long time.

Natural White Cashmere and Alpaca
The moment I start working with cashmere I tell myself that I'm NOT going to keep this cap for myself. Most of the time I toe the line but every once in awhile I don't. For me anyway, cashmere is the ultimate fiber because it feels so heavenly next to the skin. But it's not just that - it has a lot of other characteristics that make it my fave. In this traditional Pussy Cap (with a band) I coupled the Mongolian cashmere with a strand of natural Peruvian alpaca tweed. The contrasting band is the white cashmere with black cashmere accents. It's outrageously soft and wow does it feel good on. Better grab it before I do.

Black Black and Black
There are two yarns crocheted together as one here. They are a thick blended strand of cashmere and yak with a strand of superfine alpaca. Lots of thickness here but as you can see the stitches have some breathing room in them so your head can breathe a little. This cap is a traditional style but there's enough length to bring it way down to the eyebrows or turn it up a little. If you're looking for black here's your cap.

Coral Angora and Wool with Alpaca
I took a walk on the wild side with this combination of coral angora fur, coral wool, coral-accented merino and black baby alpaca with silk. I don't know, did I leave anything out? It's a massive cap in a traditional style with its rounded top. But the big turned up band changes everything as it'll be like wearing two caps at once. The fit is perfect and it'll likely stay on your head unless you're riding a bull, in which case I might suggest a cowboy hat instead of a beanie. So thick, so big, so warm and soft enough to make you smile.

Lavender Alpaca Boucle Nekker
From Italy we have this beautiful lavender alpaca boucle` yarn that has a little bit of merino in it for strength. The texture that results from these boucle` yarns is really something and because of the skilled spinning the alpaca is able to show off its softness. In alternating rows is a handspun, handpainted merino yarn from South America that is equally as soft and beautiful. Both of these yarns are the right softness for wearing next to the delicate skin of the neck and they'll give you lots of years of warmth and durability.

Orange Merino Boucle` Nekker
Boucle` yarns are so beautiful but it took a lot of years to get good at crocheting with them because the tip of the hook will often get caught on the loops in the yarn and slow things down a lot. I've persisted and now I love working with this classic yarn. Coupled with the boucle` is a really cool multi-color merino yarn from Taiwan that completely changes its orange boucle` companion without overwhelming it. I love the subtlety here and I also really love the softness.

Natural Alpaca Nekker with a bit of silk
The whitest yarn you see in this Nekker is baby alpaca with a bit of silk in it and was spun in Italy. It's an amazingly soft and silky yarn and I bought everything I could get of it. Its companion here is a truly beautiful yarn from the alpacas on Sunrise Ranch in Utah. A dark brown strand was spun with a natural white strand and the result is a softness and beauty that's hard to find in commercially spun yarns. Together these two alpaca yarns have made for a wonderful Nekker that will give you amazing comfort, warmth and softness for many years to come.
